These hardwood weaving sticks are beautifully crafted on our family farm in southeastern Ohio from wood we harvest, mill, and process into these functional, sustainable tools. Each one is sanded to a silky smooth touch and has nicely rounded edges to assure ease of use on the finest of fibers. The pointed ends come to a taper to make picking up warp threads nice and easy. We do our best to select wood with beautiful grain and unique characteristics when making all our weaving tools, because using beautiful wood fibers makes weaving a joy, too!
Measure 1 3/4" wide x 3/16" thick.
These shed sticks give you an extra 1/2" of open shed compared to our standard shed/pick up sticks, and are made out of thicker material for sturdiness.
About the wood used to make our weaving tools...
The wood used to make this product was harvested either on our family farm or a private woodlot within a 50 mile radius. We primarily harvest trees during the winter, when the ground is frozen and there is lesser chance of damage to the forest floor. This, too, is the time all our little critter friends are hidden away in their winters haven.
Trees are selectively cut using the “worst-first” method, and gently drug out with the help of a logging cart and our team of Suffolk draft horses. Logs are then taken to the farm’s sawmill, milled into lumber, and put into a solar kiln to dry.
Once the lumber has reached the proper moisture content it is turned into beautiful, functional products for all to enjoy! We intentionally select out lumber with beautiful character in the grain, so each piece has a unique appeal.
